Although the blockchain gaming space is rapidly expanding, it has yet to produce a killer app. As CoinDesk recently observed, the majority of games are idle clickers, yield farms, generic card games, and variants of pokemon go. Even greatly hyped upcoming projects such as Illuvium are basically the same thing, just with better graphics.

Since many games are focusing almost entirely on the financial aspect, they have extremely high barriers to entry, such as the requirement to purchase expensive NFTs to be able to fully experience all the content the games have to offer.

So long as this trend continues, players will jump from game to game as newer financial opportunities arise in the newer games in hopes of ‘getting in early’ and making a profit. The games fail to build customer loyalty and lack engaging and addictive gameplay and story elements.
